Founder, Dharma Foundation

American author Jack Kornfield is a Buddhist monk from Burma who studied Buddhism with the Buddha in India, Thailand, Burma. He is an influential teacher of Buddhist mindfulness meditation and has been teaching meditation in the world since 1974. He graduated from Dartmouth College in Asian Studies and worked as a member of a tropical medicine team in Mekong River Valley, where Ven. Ajahnchah. He is also a father.

In 1975, Kornfield co-founded the Insight Meditation Society, a meditation group based in a former Catholic seminary. The Dharma organization pioneered the practice and application of native mindfulness. Kornfield later adapted this to the Western way. He met Sharon Salzberg in California and moved there to start a meditation centre called Spirit Rock. He spent the rest his life teaching mindfulness.
