The Cook Center for Human Connection created a series about mental wellness and suicide prevention that explores different coping methods and positive mental wellness techniques. It's available in five languages. It gives practical advice on how to thrive in today's complex world. Flourishing is a process, not a destination. It is a balance between resources and challenges. These are the three steps to wellness.

Flourishing, a personal experience

Dr. Martin Seligman defines flourishing as an experience of positive feelings toward life. It can provide a framework for psychological and emotional wellness. When we experience positive emotions, we flourish, while when we do not, we languish. Negative emotions can lead you to be emotionally and relationally challenged, leading to many negative outcomes. So how do we cultivate flourishing? Here are some ways to do it.

First, flourishing takes change. While it is normal to make changes in our lives, we must also accept the fact that this change can be uncomfortable. We need to ask ourselves what we really think. Once we have done that, we need to allow ourselves to grow. Then, we can begin to flourish. Remember that flourishing is an individual experience. It is important to ask yourself questions and to make changes in your daily routine.

It is the balance between resources and challenges

Mental wellness can be described as being happy, healthy and functioning well. It means being able to achieve personal and interpersonal goals as well as contributing to society and realizing one's fullest potential. Mental wellness may also include psychological wellbeing. This refers to personal balance, purposefulness and autonomy as a result of positive relationships. They all share the same principles, despite the different definitions of what mental wellness is.

How can one tell if someone has a mental disorder?

Persons may be diagnosed with mental illness if they have symptoms that are disruptive to their daily life. There are many symptoms of mental illness. The most common signs are: sadness and anxiety; feeling guilty, hopeless; lonely; depressed; confused; worthless; guilty, suicidal.

A person may also be diagnosed with a mental disorder if they meet at least three out of four criteria listed below:

  1. Troubled thoughts or feelings
  2. Disturbed behavior
  3. Disturbance to functioning
  4. Ability to communicate with others impaired
